Can my engagement with your organization make a difference in saving lives?!

Ensuring medication safety stands as a paramount imperative in global healthcare, embodying the foundational expectation that medication should serve as a healing force rather than a source of harm. Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO's Director-General, eloquently underscores this principle, emphasizing that the prevention of errors not only preserves lives but also conserves vital resources. Such sentiments are echoed by the NHS's stark revelation of a staggering 237 million medication errors annually in England, with avoidable adverse drug reactions (ADRs) costing an estimated £98.5 million per year, a figure that could potentially soar even higher. Similarly alarming, medication errors in the United States claim at least one life daily and afflict approximately 1.3 million individuals annually, spotlighting the immense challenge at hand.

Further highlighting the global impact of preventable medication errors, BA da Silva's assertion in 2016 estimates that over 7 million patients are affected annually across all care settings. Amidst this sobering reality, our unwavering commitment at AME is to illuminate the concealed dangers within medication errors. Annually, a staggering 700,000 lives are lost due to medication misuse alone, underlining the urgent imperative for decisive action. Beyond the stark statistics lie countless individuals ensnared by the web of medication-related myths, magnifying the urgency of our mission.

Recognizing and acknowledging the problem is merely the first step toward the solution, a guiding principle that steers our concerted efforts in addressing medication errors head-on. In the Jordanian context, studies reveal concerning gaps in pharmacists' knowledge regarding appropriate antibiotic dosing for pediatric patients, posing grave risks to patient safety. Moreover, research among the population underscores a disturbing prevalence of potentially dangerous drug-drug interactions (pDDIs), with 18.3% categorized as major medication errors, signaling an urgent need for targeted interventions to enhance medication safety protocols.

While medications serve as a cornerstone of modern healthcare, offering a vital lifeline to countless individuals, it is crucial to recognize the inherent risks associated with alternative therapies such as herbs or traditional practices. Herbs, often perceived as natural remedies, can harbor hidden dangers, leading to catastrophic outcomes like kidney failure. Likewise, traditional practices, steeped in cultural significance, can pose grave risks, as evidenced by cases of jaundice and permanent brain damage resulting from archaic rituals like head cutting.

At AME, we advocate for informed decision-making, championing thorough research and processing to ensure the safety of pharmaceutical compounds derived from herbs. Furthermore, we are committed to exposing the perils lurking within traditional therapies and promoting evidence-based alternatives, safeguarding lives and futures amidst the evolving landscape of healthcare challenges. By joining hands with us, you become a vital agent of change, actively contributing to the preservation of lives and the advancement of safer medication practices.
